2013 Angler of the Year

Brian (aka Digger) Dygdala

Brian, originally from Alberta, fished his first Saskatchewan tournament at the inaugural Rowan's Ravine tournament along with many members of the Western Walleye Council that attended this and many of our early Saskatchewan tournaments.  Brian was an employee of the Fishin' Hole and managing one the Edmonton stores when in 1998 he moved to Saskatchewan to manage the Saskatoon store and since has fished all the SWT tournaments and several others in the province.

Since that time he has exhibited a fishing prowess matched by few and has accumulated many tournament wins, awards (including the prestigious SWT Hall of Fame) and high finishes in both the SWT and other tournaments. Brian fished as a team until this year when his tournament partner (that would be me) had to unexpectedly drop out of the circuit.  Since we had only fished the first two tournaments of the year which included a win at Elbow this gave Brian the opportunity to compete for the Angler of the Year and he did this in fine fashion by winning the category with an amazing 449 out of a possible 450 points for his best 3 tournaments.

This was an odd year and because of the late rescheduling of the Regina Beach tournament, points from that tournament were not included in the Team or Angler of the year calculations. Had this tournament been included in the points Brian would have finished with 598 out of a possible 600 points.  This should not go unnoticed because to accumulate 598 points from 4 tournaments required 2 wins and 2 second place finishes.  This is a level of consistency that I will be shocked if it is ever repeated let alone beat.
